Rihanna on Chris Brown: If It's a Mistake, It's My Mistake

Rihanna is opening up about her relationship with Chris Brown ... and reveals why she decided to give him another chance.

"I decided it was more important for me to be happy," she tells the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone. "I wasn't going to let anybody's opinion get in the way of that. Even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake."

The two, of course, have a very violent past together -- one that includes Brown brutally assaulting her after a pre-Grammy party in 2009.

But after keeping their distance for a little while, the two started hanging out again.

"After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I'd rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it," she adds.

In the new issue, out Friday, she tells the magazine what's changed between them.

"When you add up the pieces from the outside, it's not the cutest puzzle in the world," Rihanna says. "You see us walking somewhere, driving somewhere, in the studio, in the club, and you think you know. But it's different now. We don't have those types of arguments anymore. We talk about s***. We value each other. We know exactly what we have now, and we don't want to lose that."

Rihanna also says the public aren't the only ones who were horrified by what Chris did ... so is Chris.

"He doesn't have the luxury of f***ing up again," she says. "That's just not an option. I can't say that nothing else will ever go wrong. But I'm pretty solid in the knowing that he's disgusted by that. And I wouldn't have gone this far if I ever thought that was a possibility."

While it's interesting to hear her be so honest about their relationship, is it sending the wrong message to her fans? Or should she just be who she wants to be?

8:45 AM PT -- Cops have now confirmed Ross was driving the Rolls-Royce at the time of the crash.

The passenger was Shateria L. Moragne-el -- who is reportedly dating the rapper.

Cops say neither party suffered any injuries. The suspects fled from the scene before cops arrived on scene.

Rick Ross' Rolls-Royce smashed into a building in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida early this morning ... while trying to escape from a gunman who opened fire on the car ... this according to police.

Ross was not shot during the incident -- nor was a female who was also inside the car.

According to local reports, "dozens" of shots were fired at the vehicle around 5AM -- none of which hit the Rolls. Several buildings in the area WERE struck by gunfire.

Cops say another vehicle had pulled up next to the Rolls ... when someone inside opened fire on Ross' car.

Ross' Rolls reportedly crashed into a building while trying to speed away from the gunfire.

So far, cops have not made any arrests in connection with the shooting -- and have not identified any suspects.

Local10.com obtained a photo from the crash scene, showing Ross' smashed-up Rolls-Royce being towed away.

Cops tell TMZ they are investigating.

Ugh! We're getting shivers over this!

As we previously reported, Tuesday evening was the last New Year's one paparazzo would ever see.

Following that perfect photograph of Justin Bieber, a celebrity photographer high-tailed it to where he believed the popstar was during a routine traffic stop in El Lay.

With the famous white Ferrari stopped for the CHP, the pap put his life in danger trying to get a snapshot of Justin… despite CHP's warnings.

The photog was then struck by an oncoming car and killed. Justin wasn't even in the car…

But even though he wasn't present during the incident, he's affected nonetheless. Having just released a statement on the matter, he says:

"While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim. Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves." -Justin Bieber

The photog who was killed taking pics of Justin Bieber's car made a call less than an hour before he died, telling someone he was on a big story -- because he claimed he saw Justin smoking marijuana while driving.

A source connected with the photo agency Chris Guerra did freelance work for tells TMZ ... Chris called him at 5:16 Tuesday afternoon. Chris said, "Man, you won't believe my luck. It's pretty dead in L.A.. Everybody thinks Justin and Selena are in Mexico, but they're not."

Chris -- who worked exclusively on the Bieber detail -- said he had spotted Justin's car earlier in the day at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills and also saw Selena Gomez's car there.

Chris went on ... claiming he saw Justin earlier in the day smoking what he believed was marijuana from a pipe while driving the Ferrari.

Our source says Chris told him he was following Justin back to the Four Seasons and was continuing to pursue what he believed was a big story.

The source says after 20 minutes, Chris abruptly said the Ferrari was pulling out of the hotel parking lot and he needed to hang up and follow it. Apparently he had no idea Justin was NOT in the car.

Our source -- who as we said is connected to the photo agency -- believes Chris was probably "overzealous" at the traffic stop because he believed he was on the cusp of an enormous scoop.

Justin's rep tells TMZ, "It's really sad that people are trying to push a story without the facts so soon after this tragic accident. Justin was not present or involved in this incident and the focus should remain on honoring the memory of the victim."

The rep did not directly respond to the marijuana allegation
